The Specimen
Some genetics need very little introduction.
Bringing together two celebrated Doc Block breeding lines with the collector heritage of Carlablackiae OG1, this cross represents an intriguing intersection of modern Anthurium breeding and established velvet-leaf genetics.
I acquired these seed-grown siblings from Lisa Anderson and have grown them on in Harlem. Their individual characteristics are beginning to emerge.
Each seedling offers a different interpretation of the same parentage. The possibility of what comes next is part of their appeal.
The Foliage
Deep green, velvet-textured leaves carry contrasting venation, with differences in shape, surface texture, and developing coloration emerging between siblings.
Selected specimens currently display raised, blister-like foliage characteristics that add another dimension to their appearance.
As these plants mature, leaf shape, texture, color, and venation may change considerably. Mature characteristics and the persistence of blister-like growth are not guaranteed.
Your Specimen
PG COLLECTOR · EXACT PLANT
Each seedling is offered individually. The specimen selected is the exact plant photographed and identified by its gallery SKU.
These are seed-grown siblings, not identical clones or randomized Grower’s Choice plants.
PG-0047: You will receive the individual seedling shown in this product’s photographs. Quantity one.
The photographed specimen has a small visible hole in its larger leaf and some discoloration at the smaller leaf edge; these current marks are shown in the photographs.
Growing Notes
Light: Bright, indirect light, avoiding prolonged exposure to harsh direct sun.
Water: Maintain consistent moisture without allowing the substrate to remain saturated. Allow the upper layer to begin drying before watering again.
Growing medium: An airy, moisture-retentive but freely draining Anthurium substrate.
Humidity: Moderate to elevated humidity, with gentle air circulation.
Temperature: Stable, warm indoor conditions, protected from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Development: Seedling foliage may differ substantially from mature leaves. Provide stable conditions, appropriate nutrition, and room for continued root and foliage development.
Provenance
Recorded parentage: (Anthurium ‘Red Velvet Cake’ × ‘Zara’) × Anthurium carlablackiae OG1.
Red Velvet Cake and Zara are associated with Doc Block breeding lines. OG1 identifies material associated with Scott Cohen’s original carlablackiae collection.
I acquired these plants from Lisa Anderson and have since grown them in my Plant Gallery collection in Harlem, New York.
Individual sibling variation and development are documented through each specimen’s Living Archive.
Parent images are provided for lineage reference and are not the plants offered for sale. The framed botanical artwork is an AI illustration based on the supplied parent photographs; it does not predict how these seed-grown plants will mature.
