The Specimen

Some specimens become more beautiful with time. Others ask you to understand them first.

I acquired this pink-variegated Begonia ‘Snow Capped’ as a single-leaf cutting approximately one year before this listing.

As I grew it on, its pink coloration became less pronounced. After I pruned it and moved it into brighter conditions, warmer tones began to return.

Today, this individually cultivated specimen presents a captivating composition of silver-spotted leaves, olive-green undertones, coral-pink new growth, and rich reddish stems.

The Foliage

Its asymmetrical, pointed leaves carry an intricate pattern of reflective silver markings across green and bronze surfaces. Developing foliage may emerge in shades of blush, coral, or pink before changing as it matures.

The intensity and distribution of pink coloration naturally vary between leaves. Future growth is not guaranteed to reproduce the exact coloration photographed.

You will receive the individual plant photographed, offered in its current nursery container.

This is a cultivated, multi-leaf specimen rather than an unrooted single-leaf cutting or randomized Grower’s Choice selection.

Growing Notes

  • Light: Bright, filtered light promotes healthy, compact growth and supports colorful foliage. Avoid harsh direct sunlight that can scorch delicate leaves.

  • Water: Maintain a lightly and evenly moist, well-draining substrate without allowing the roots to remain waterlogged.

  • Humidity: Moderate to elevated humidity is beneficial, accompanied by gentle airflow to discourage fungal problems.

  • Temperature: Maintain warm, stable indoor conditions and protect from cold drafts.

Growing habit: Cane-type Begonia. As stems mature, selective pruning and light support may help maintain the desired shape.

  • Foliage care: Avoid prolonged wetness on leaves and handle delicate new growth carefully.

Provenance

I have grown this plant in Harlem, New York, from a small cutting I acquired approximately one year before this listing.

I noticed the pink coloration becoming less pronounced, then pruned the plant and increased its light exposure. More recent growth has displayed warm pink tones again.

Original grower and specific propagation lineage beyond the identified cultivar are undocumented.
